Real Madrid interest in Chelsea midfielder could alert Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti is looking at making a move for Ramires with whom he worked with before at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly giving his scouts the mission of looking for a new midfielder for his side. Number one target is Ramires of Chelsea and Madrid scouts will be following him until the new year when they could then make a move.

It was Ancelotti who brought Ramires to Chelsea and since then he has gone on to become an important player for the Blues. Signed from Benfica in 2010 for a fee of £20m, he has gone on to appear in over 150 games for the Europa League holders.

Ramires was particularly instrumental in the club’s successful Champions League campaign in the 2011-2012 season. He assisted Didier Drogba’s goal in a first-leg semi-final victory over Barcelona and then scored a beautiful lobbed goal in the second-leg shortly after Chelsea had gone down to 10-men to help Chelsea to a 3-2 aggregate win.

That was later voted goal of the season, and although he missed the corresponding final, he scored the opening goal in the FA Cup final versus Liverpool which they also won. Ramires can deliver in the big games and it would therefore seem probable that he would fit in well at the Santiago Bernabéu.

With Ramires predominantly being used in a central midfield role, Madrid may well be looking to move on one or two players.

They currently already have Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Luka Modric, Asier Illarramendi and Casemiro able to play centrally. Illarramendi joined this summer for a fee of £27.5m, the most they have ever paid for a Spaniard, and Casemiro has also recently joined. Both are young and are clearly seen for the future. Nuri Sahin is still a Madrid player too, but is currently out on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

It could mean that Xabi Alonso may be allowed to leave. Coming up to his 32nd birthday in November he still has a few years left in the game, however, the former Real Sociedad player now in his fifth season at the club could be allowed to leave for a small fee.

This would alert Liverpool who would love to have the player back at Anfield. As a box-to-box player, Ramires would be the ideal replacement for Alonso. Reports suggest Ramires, known as ‘Rambo’ by Chelsea fans, could go for as little as £15m which would represent a fantastic bit of business, and the player would relish at the opportunity to join up with Ancelotti again.
